Carlos has two equal wooden slats but of lengths
150 Y175 centimeters. If you have to cut them into equal pieces so that you have as many pieces as possible, how many pieces should you cut and how long should they be?

The length of the slats has to be a divider of

150

and of 175

and, in addition, it has to be as large as possible. Therefore, Carlos must calculate the LCD.

We decompose the numbers:

150 = two ⋅ 3 ⋅ 5 two 175 = 5 two ⋅ 7

The only common ground is 5

and the only exponent of these bases is two . Therefore,

m c d ( 150 , 175 ) = 5 two = 25

You must cut pieces of

25

centimeters.

Dividing the lengths by

25 , we have the number of pieces that Carlos will obtain from each strip:

From the ribbon

150  will have

150 / 25 = 6  slats.

From the ribbon

175

will have

175 / 25 = 7  slats.

The total number of chunks is

13 .
