Carlos is almost old enough to go to school. Based on where he lives, there are 6 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and 2 high schools that he has the option of attending. How many different education paths are available to Carlos? Assume he will attend only one of each type of school.

Answer: 36

( Edit, I just forgot to put the answer up at the top is all)

Step-by-step explanation:

Lets give each item a name okay?

lets have the Elementary schools be A, B , C, D , E , F

Lets Have the middle schools be X Y Z

Lets have the High schools be: 1 2

so we could do

A X 1     B X 1     C X 1

A X 2     B X 2   C X 2

A Y 1      B Y 1    C Y 1

A Y 2     B Y 2   C Y 2

A Z 1      B Z 1     C Z 1

A Z 2     B Z 2    C Z 2

now since I dont really feel like writing out e v e r y single combo, going up to C is half of six, so you just have to double it, but if you arent as lazy as I am, you could continue this same pattern with D E F and just keep going

Up to C we have 18 combos, so another 18 would be 36, so there are a totoal of 36 combos.

But there is an even faster way to do it, where you just write out all the combos for one, (Ill use A as an example)

A X 1

A X 2

A Y 1

A Y 2

A Z 1

A Z 2

if theres six options, and six total elementary schools, you multiply 6 by six, and you get 36.

There tons of different ways to do this, and depending on how much time you have should change with method you use, writing out every single combo would take to long, so either write out half or just one.
