carol who is 60 kg is driving her car at a speed of 25 m/s. She sees a dog crossing the road and so she stepped on the brake to avoid hitting it her seatbelt brings her body to a stop in 0.40s.

A. what average force does the seatbelt exert on her?
B. if she is not strapped to her seatbelt the windshield stops her head in 0.001s what is the average force of the windshield exert in her
(momentum)

Answer:

A. Average force ererted by seatbelt = 3750 N

B. A verage force ererted by windsheild in her = 1.5 ×10^{6} N

Explanation:

GIVEN,

  •  mass = 60 kg
  •   v = 25m/s
  •   t = 0.40s

To find,

     A. Average force ererted by seatbelt

     B. A verage force ererted by windsheild in her

solution,

   A)   we know that,

  • u = v+ at
  • initial velocity= 0
  • 0 = v + at
  •   a = -v/t

               = - 25/0.40

                 = - 62.5 m/s^2   ( this is the acccelerated speed)

  •    F = ma = 60× -62.5

                      =- 3750 N

  • Average force F¹ = -F = 3750N

B) we know that,

      v₁ = v =25m/s   t₁ = 0.001 s

  • u₁ = v₁+ a₁t₁
  • initial velocity= 0
  •   0 = v + at
  •   a₁ = -v₁/t₁

               = - 25/0.001

                 = - 2.5×10^{4} m/s^2   ( this is the acccelerated speed)

  • F₁ = -ma₁ = 60× 2.5×10^{4}
  •                       =1.5 ×10^{6} N
  • Average force F₁= -F =1.5 ×10^{6} N
