. Carry out the following osmosis experiment: W OU
Take four peeled potato halves and scoos each one out to
make potato cups. One of these potato cups should be made
from a boiled potato. Put each potato cup in a trough
containing water. Now,
(a) Keep cup A empty
(b) Put one teaspoon sugar in cup B
(c) Put one teaspoon salt in cup C
(d) Put one teaspoon sugar in the boiled potato cup D.
Keep these for two hours. Then observe the four potato cups
and answer the following:
(i) Explain why water gathers in the hollowed portion of
B and C.
(ii) Why is potato A necessary for this experiment?
(iii) Explain why water does not gather in the hollowed out
portions of A and D.

i) the water gathered as there is a difference in the osmotic concentration of contents in the bowl and the water

To overcome this difference, the water from the container comes inside the potato cup

ii) potato A is necessary as it tells us that osmosis can only take place when there is a difference in the concentration gradient, which is absent in potato A

iii) water doesn't gather in A and D as in A there is no difference in the concentration gradient. And in D the potato is boiled which means that the cells are also dead and thus osmosis cant take place

Hope it helps u

And if it does then plz make it as the brainlist answer
