The tires of the car have groops to grip the road.The large surface area increases the friction between the car and the road.On an icy road,due to less friction,the tires are not able to grip the road and hence the car 'slips'

because there is no grip between tyres and the ice that's why cars slip on icy road thus there is no friction between them..
