Carter had a to chisel away the solidified resins to raise the king's remains because they had cemented Tut the bottom of his solid gold coffin . There was no amount of legitimate force that could move them . Even Carter did not know what was to be done . For many hours he sent the mummy outside in blazing sunshine that heated it to 149 degrees Fahrenheit , but nothing budged . So there was no other alternative left for Carter as the thieves would have ripped it apart to remove the gold .
