The cells of cartilage are called chondrocyte.

Chondrocyte secrete matrix called chondrin which is made up of mucoprotein.

Cartilage is covered externally by a thin membrane made of fibrous connective tissue.

This covering is called perichondrium. Below perichondrium , numerous chondrocyte are found.

Each chondrocyte is situated in a fluid filled called lacuna. Chondrocyte continuously divide and move downwards and secrete matrix.

In this way 2 3 chondrocyte are produced in each lacuna , which separate later .

Cartilage are of following types :

1 Hyaline cartilage

2 Elastic cartilage

3. White Fibrous cartilage

4 Calcified cartilage
