Case Based Integrated Questions

Q.12. Read the following passage and then answer (a)-(d) on the basis of your understanding of the passage and related studied concepts:

When we consider objects moving along a straight line, different objects may take different times to cover a given distance and the rate at which objects move can be different. One simple of measuring the rate of motion of an object is to find out the distance travelled by the object in unit time and this quantity is referred to as speed. The rate of motion of an object can be more comprehensive if we specify the direction of motion along with its speed. The quantity that specifies both these aspects is called velocity.

(a). Define speed of a moving object.

(b). Obtain Sl unit of speed.

(c). What is the most important difference between velocity and speed?

(d). A person is moving along a perimeter of a field with a constant speed. Is this velocity uniform? Why?

Answer:

a) Speed is a scalar quantity that refers to "how fast an object is moving." Speed can be thought of as the rate at which an object covers distance. A fast-moving object has a high speed and covers a relatively large distance in a short amount of time.

b) m/s

c) Speed Velocity

Speed is the distance traveled by a body in a unit time. Velocity is the displacement covered by a body in a unit time.

d) no because continuous change of direction at every point

It is an application of pyrolysis. The process breaks up or 'cracks' large molecules. Coke, coal gas, gaseous carbon, coal tar, ammonia liquor, and coal oil are examples of commercial products historically produced by the destructive distillation of coal.
