CASE STUDY: CARTESIAN PLANE
Using Cartesian Coordinates we mark a point on a graph by how far along and how far up it is.
In a green park, New Delhi Ramesh is having a rectangular plot OBCD as show in the following figure. Sapling of Gulmohar is planted on the boundary at a distance of 1m from each other. In the plot, Ramesh builds his house in the rectangular area PQRS. In the remaining part of plot, Ramesh wants to plant grass.
a) The coordinates of vertices P and S of rectangle PQRS are respectively: i) (2,3), (6,3) ii) (3,2), (3,6) iii) (6,3), (2,3) iv) (3,6), (3,2)
b) The coordinates of mid-point of diagonal QS is given by i)(13,4) ii)(13,2) iii)(4 ,2) iv)(2 ,4)
c) The area of rectangle PQRS is
i) 28 m2 ii) 28 km2 iii) 28 km iv) 28 m3
d) The coordinates of vertices R and Q of rectangle PQRS are respectively: i) (10,6),(10,2) ii) (2,10),(10,6) iii) (10,2),(10,6) iv) (2, 10), (6,1)
e) The length and breadth of rectangle PQRS respectively are: i) 4, 7 ii) 7, 4 iii) 6, 4 iv) 4, 4
