When there’s an earthquake in Agra, the safest place to be will be inside the Taj Mahal. According to D V Sharma, superintending archaeologist in Agra, “It is the safest monument. It will survive even if the whole of Agra is flattened by an earthquake.'' The Mughals devised it to be quake proof, and despite it standing along soft riverbed soil for four centuries, it has not seen a crack.
However, most of our modern cities aren’t as safe or even close. And considering India’s high urban density, the damage can be the next Michael Bay movie if a 9.0 Magnitude earthquake breaks through any of them.
