Hi,
Divisions of income, education and occupation are other factors that play role in election results. Take for example, the state legislative assembly elections in 2005, Bihar. Lalu Prasad yadav's regime of 15 years saw a watershed defeat. JD (U) along with the support of NDA, came out to be victorious. The leaders of both the parties belonged to OBC section of the society but what differentiated Nitish Kumar's agenda from Lalu Prasad's rule was “social justice and equality”.
Lalu Prasad Yadav had raised the slogan “Bhura bal saaf karo” . It called for the elimination of the Bhumihars, Brahmins, Rajputs, Lalas or Kayasthas. This was casteist in its tone and did not cord well with the masses. Whereas the slogan by Nitish Kumar that appealed “Agada, Pichada Ek Ho” which meant that the forward and backward must unite.
