Casteism and communication are twin monsters that threaten the social fabric and the very basis of our
nationhood. They are inimical to feelings of tolerance, understanding and adjustment which are the harbingers of
our nationalism. It is true that for the development of a cohesive nation, we cannot expect each community or
group to subjugate its identity. It is even more true in the case of India. However, the existence of different
religions is not bad as is the exploitation of religious identities to usutp power. Same is the case with caste. In
fact, the electoral politics has crystallised caste as it was never before. Being religious or belonging to a caste is
one thing, being communal or casteist is a totally different thing. We must enrich our religion, our community but
not at the cost of others. We should learn to adjust or suppress narrow interests, sectarian interests in the large
interest of the nation. Bigotism and parochialism
are positions to the body of a nation.
