The population of a nation can be broadly classified into three broad categories:

Children – Population below 15 year

They constitute 34.4 % of the total population of our country.

They are economically unproductive and need to be provided with food, clothing, education and medical care.

Adults - Population above 15 years but less than 60 years.

They constitute 58.7 % of the total population of our country.

They are economically productive and biologically reproductive.

They comprise the working population.

Aged - Population above 60 years.

They constitute 6.9 % of the total population of our country.

They can be economically productive or non-productive.

They may be working voluntarily but are not available for employment through recruitment.
