CaO-the Calcium has a charge of +2... it is the cation. It reacts with the anion, Oxygen, which has a charge of -2. They cancel each other out.

NaOH is an ionic compound. When it is dissolved in water the ions are solvated. With NaOH, the sodium ions are stabilised by interaction with unshared electron pairs of water molecules, and the hydroxide ions are stabilised by hydrogen bonding of their unshared electron pairs with the partially positive hydrogens of water molecules.

KOH = K+ OH- : Where k+ is cation and OH- is anion

Calcium chloride is made of calcium ions (with 2 charges, Ca++) and chloride ions (with 1 charge only, Cl—).

I am going to tell a secret method

If we take ex like Cao -calcium chloride the first world would be anion and second word would be cation.so calcium is anion and chloride is cation

Similarly NAOH- sodium hydroxide ..here sodium will be anion and cation would be hydroxide..
