Causes Of Biological Disaster:-

1. Epidemic and Pandemic:

  • When there is an outbreak of a disease in a specific region, it is called an 'epidemic'. Pandemic refers to an disease all over the world, like COVID-19.
  • An epidemic is not limited to any one place. But if it spreads to other countries and other continents as well, it is called 'universal disease' or pandemic.
  • Bacteria or viruses are the main cause of the epidemic.

2. Biological Agents:

  • Natural enemies are called bio-agents that attack only their targets, not elsewhere.
  • They don't affect the environment but humans, animals and birds.
  • They're natural enemies, includes mainly insect classes.
  • Example:- bacteria, fungal viruses and plant-borne insecticides.
  • Small pox or diarrhoea are cause by these agents.

3. Fungi:

  • Fungi is also a main cause of biological disaster as it cause disease in plants.
  • Phoma blight is a new disease, but it is now becoming economically important in mango fruit production areas.
  • Symptoms are caused by the fungus Peronealia glomerata.
