Cause of decline of Gonds :

1. The ruling class did not adhere to the culture of the Gond community in large. Gondi kings applied the same methods as their adversaries to raise revenue.

2. Gonds were hunter-gatherers practicing agriculture in primitive way. Clearing up of forests to produce more cash crops and building dams disturbed the forest dwelling lifestyle of Gonds.

3. Internal fights and royal killings made them weaker.

4. Clearing up of forests and allotment of land to outside communities cut into traditional resources of the Gonds. Not being good enough to make revenue through commercial agriculture made them prey to debt.

5. In due course of time, outsiders flourished where as Gonds moved back to forest dwelling, distanced from seats of power and fell in poverty.

Later Maratha power took over the territories of Gond.
