The Indigo revolt was a peasant movement and subsequent uprising of indigo farmers against the indigo planters that arose in Bengal in 1859. Cause lead to revolt - Indigo planting in Bengal dated back to 1777.

as the demand for indigo was very high so the indigo planters force the peasants to plant indigo instead of food crops.and if we r doing the plantation of indigo then it talk all the soil fertility leave the land barren so the farmers are not interested in the cropping of indigo
