Causes of deforestation :-

a) Primary causes

Agriculture - small scale and large scale farming .

Logging - cutting of trees for use as raw material .

Mining and urban expansion - clearing of forest area for the construction of infrastructure .

b) Secondary causes

Military conflicts among humans can also be considered as a cause .

illegal logging involving the harvesting and sale of timber in violation of the law .

Overpopulation increasea the requirement for several resources such as food and infrastructure .

Effects of deforestation :-

It leads to emission of green house gases .

It leads to clearance of forests which can cause soil erosion .

It alters land that many plants and animals can't survive , this leads to loss in biodiversity .
