But the pollution caused by it is a major concern at a global level because it contains abundant quantity of phosphate salt. Following are the ways it is causing pollution and having an impact on the environment:

- It is contaminating the water at the ground level and the foams caused by it can be seen.
- Harmful components of detergents such as anthropogenetic can make water go dark which will block sunlight and the growth of plants is hindered.
- Chemicals in detergents can make water contaminated which will be hazardous for the human health. It can cause sore throat, nausea, stomach cramps, and could even lead to death in some major cases.
