dispersion of light is a complex phenomena which have a number of reasons
1.the first reason is the speed of light ,
different colours have different speeds of light and due to this the refractive indices of different colours are different ...
that is the refractive index of red colour is the least thus it deviates the least whereas the refractive index of violet colour is the most so it deviates the most..and due to this different deviations the constituent coloursof white colour seperate from each other...
2. the different colours have different colours have different wavelengths , this is also a reason for the dispersion of light...
