- One may consider Aurangzeb's religious policies as one of the reasons that brought about the decline of the Mughal Empire, which damaged the stability of the Empire but there were other factors which eventually brought about the disintegration of the Empire.
- Aurangzeb failed to recognize the power of Marathas, who were an important power to reckon with.
- Imperial treasury was severely effected because Aurangzeb's involvement in the Deccan.
- His conflict with the Rajputs further weakened the empire.
- Increase in the power and authority of the mansabdars who exercised great influence and became difficult to be controlled.
- The powerful and ambitious nobles began to carve out their own independent states like Bengal, Hyderabad, Awadh etc.
- Peasants and Zamindars rebellions caused problems.
- Nadir Shah's invasion exposed the weaknesses of the Mughal Empire.
- Weak political leadership after Aurangzeb led to political crisis and decline of the Empire.
