The Ganga is an important river in India. It is the holy river of India. Over the years, it has become
highly polluted. There are about 25 big cities built on its banks. Waste from factories, farms,
humans, and animals are dumped into the river. Some people burn human bodies on the banks
of the river and throw the ashes into the river. Many people bathe in the river. Many people throw
diyas and statues into it. Water from many parts of the river has become unsafe for people to use.
Drinking water from the river can lead to many diseases like typhoid and jaundice. Many fish and
other water animals have also died because of pollution.
