In the poem 'The Duck And The Kangaroo', why has the poet presented the duck as a female and the kangaroo as a male character?

the duck is presented as a female character and the kangaroo is presented as a male character because as people have a strong believe that the males are physically stronger than females so, in the poem the kangaroo gave a ride to the duck in his back.
