Tetrachloromethane, CCl4 has polar bond even but dipole moment is zero because the shape of the molecule (tetrachloromethane) is tetrahedral and this makes it very symmetrical and the 4 polar bonds cancel each other out to produce zero dipole moment.

Polarity of molecules are due to the fact that there exists differentiation in the electronegativity.

The difference in the electronegativity results in the existence of dipole moment in a molecule.

Answer:

  • IT HAS TETRAHEDRAL SYMMETRICAL SHAPE
  • polar covalent t bond
  • no lone pair present
  • hence bonded atoms cancels out each other

that's why it has zero dipole moment

Hope it's help
