CCL4 is resistant to hydrolysis but SiCl4 is readily hydrolyzed. Why?

lack of d orbital on carbon atom and presence of vacant d orbital on Si atom

Explanation:

At first water molecule attack on vacant 3d orbital of Si and release Cl- and presence of d orbital allow Si to expand its co-ordination number.

But Carbon has no chance for the above 2 cases so inert..
