In unicellular organisms, there is only one cell. They carry out asexual reproduction, whose unit is spores (not gametes).
Mitotic cell division takes place, in which two daughter cells are formed from the single parent cell, and number of chromosomes of each daughter cells are same (diploid) as that present in the parent cell.
Thus the parent organism got divided into two, by cell division, due to which it reproduced (produced offsprings). Hence, cell division in unicellular organisms like amoeba, chlamydomonas, etc.....is a type of reproduction.

In unicellular organisms like amoeba and plasmodium.. Amoeba divide into two daughters cell but in plasmodium they divide into many cell.
