Collenchyma is a type of simple permanent tissue that provides flexibility to a plant and is usually present in the stem and leaf stalks of dicotyledonous plants. Collenchyma cells have irregular depositions of cellulose and pectin on their cell walls and that is one of the ways one can identify collenchyma cells under the microscope.
