Cell is called the structural unit of life because cell is the basic structure from which an organism is formed. In detail, cells combine to form tissue, tissues combine to form organ, organs combine to form organ system and different organ systems combine to form an organism.
Cell is called the functional unit of life because all the metabolic activities are carried out in the cell. In other words cell is the smallest unit of life which functions independently.Thus cell is called the functional unit of life.
