Cells show variety in shape !

Three types of cells having different shapes are as follows:

  • Red Blood Cells

  • Squamous epithelium cells

  • Neurons

Functions of the cells:

1. Red Blood Cells:

  • They are bi-concave shaped with an average diameter of 7.2 micro-metre.

  • Their main function is transport of gases with the help of hemoglobin present inside them.

2. Squamous Epithelium Cells:

  • They are flattened cells , together they attach to each other like tiles in a pavement.

  • Their function is formation of tissues which line the visceras of the body (i.e. various organs).

  • They allow easy diffusion of substances through them.

3. Neurons:

  • They are elongated, thin, slender cells. They are the structural and functional unit of the NERVOUS SYSTEM.

  • Their main function is to transport impulses from one part to another. The impulse is mainly an electrical impulse.
