In the poem 'Father to Son' by Elizabeth Jennings, what is the mistake committed by the son, that the father is ready to forgive and have him back prodigal?
In this poem the poet is simply indicating the relationship between a son and a father whose bonds are not strong with each other.
Poet simply indicated that son and father don't get along, silence is their language while spending time with other. Father recalls the time when his son was simply an infant who stays in the home but then the father murdered the relationship between them by not paying the heat to it. He says his interest, his life; he cannot see where his part lies. The only thing his son have is his life and he does not care about his father or his tastes. His son only have a body like him and except that they are strangers.
He says that he don't want to move out of his life or allow him to do the same, so he says why not forgive each other? Why not make the relationship from their roots, why not turn the sorrow into joy? Dad is ready to forgive son for his mistake but he has to do the same. He wants to live with his child forever, on same turf, on same globe, LIVE there forever.
He says to his son lets put an empty hand towards each other, discuss, forgive and live together forever.
