central hall of a school is 18m long and 12.5m wide .a carpet is to be laid on floor leaving strip 50cm wide near walls uncovered.find the area of the carpet and also the uncovered portion?

Convert the units in cm

Total area = l x b = 1800 x 1250 = 2250000 cm sq.

Leaving area,

50 x 1250 x 2 = 125000, 50 x 1700 x 2 = 170000

       = 295000 cm sq.

Area of the carpet = total area – leaving area

                          2250000 – 295000 = 1955000 cm sq.

Therefore,

        Ar. Of the carpet = 19550 m sq.

        Leaved area = 2950 m sq.
