central hall of a school is 18m long and 12.5m wide. a carpet is to be laid on floor leaving strip 50cm wide near walls uncovered.find the area of the carpet and also the uncovered portions ?

Convert the units in cm

Total area = l x b = 1800 x 1250 = 2250000 cm sq.

Leaving area,

50 x 1250 x 2 = 125000, 50 x 1700 x 2 = 170000

       = 295000 cm sq.

Area of the carpet = total area – leaving area

                          2250000 – 295000 = 1955000 cm sq.

Therefore,

        Ar. Of the carpet = 19550 m sq.

        Leaved area = 2950 m sq.
