The central idea of the poem a legend of the Northland moves around a miser old lady who baked cakes. The old lady was a cheapskate and did not want to share his resources with any other. Once a Saint called Peter visited the place where the woman lived. He was actually feeling weak with fasting so he asked the old lady for a cake. The lady did not deny him but tried to bake a small cake. When she failed in her attempt to bake a small cake (each seemed her big one) she baked a thin cake. However, she found it difficult to donate it to the saint. Therefore, she put the cake on the shelf and did not give the saint a single cake. This behavior of the old lady made Saint Peter very angry that he cursed him by saying that she was too selfish to live as human beings, have meals, house and fire to keep her warm and changed her to  a woodpecker who would have to develop a nest to survive in, bore for a meal in the trees' trunk. Her dress was fired and she was left with her vermilion hat as she rushed out through the chimney. She is even now live in the woodlands and bore food.
