Answer:

Robert Frost uses the fork in the road as a metaphor for the choices one faces in life. Whichever road or way one chooses, leads to an unalterable difference in life. Life is a journey and in order to move ahead, it is important to select an option. The title of the poem is interesting as it can refer to either road. The poet takes the less travelled by, that is,he chooses the road that is less frequented by the other travellers. However, when he chooses the second road, the road described first becomes ‘The Road not taken’.

Every choice made presents its unique set of possibilities and opportunities which may be starkly different from the ones which could have been, if a different choice had been made. Also, it is not possible for human beings to do anything that is there to be done because they are bound by time and space. So, instead of regretting, it is important to own the responsibility for the decisions and choices one makes. One should value the experiences that choices offer and move on in life.

Robert Frost‘s choice shows that he is an adventurous individual who does not like to take up trodden paths. He studies the situation and takes his time to reach his own conclusions. Not afraid of taking on the challenges of life, he decides to explore the unexplored. He knows well that the choice once made cannot be undone. Still he chooses the comparatively difficult option. He makes an informed choice and knows that his choice would affect his life unalterably and is ready to accept it as it comes.
