The origin of cultivated wheat is located in the Ancient Mediterranean (syn.=Old Mediterranean) which includes, according to Vavilov's last paper (1940), the Mediterranean region and Southwest Asia. The latter was divided by Vavilov (1935) into Asia Minor in a broader sense and Inner Asia.
