The furst clear expression of nationalism came with the French Revolution. French Revolution was started by storming of Bastille in Paris in 1789.

The following were the political and constitutional changes that occured due to French Revolution in Europe :

a) A centralised administrative system was put in place and it formulated uniform laws for all citizens within its territory.

b) Internal custom duties and dues were abolished and a uniform system of weights and measures were adopted.

c) French led to spark of uprisings in different parts of Europe. Also this led to transfer of sovereignty from monarchy to body of citizens.

d) Due to French Revolution nation states started to be developed. Most of states demanded their long lost freedom.

e) many nationalist leaders tried to forge national unity through wars and even cultural processes. People came to be seen as nation developers.
