AIMS OF CLASSIFICATION
• There are 118 elements known at present out of which 98 are naturally occuring.
• The study of properties of all these elements separately is difficult.
• So, the chemist felt it necessary to group elements having similar characters together.
• By classification it is easy and simple to learn the properties of elements.
• So all the elements are divided into few groups in such a way that elements in the same group have similar properties.
• In this way, the study of large number of elements is reduced to the study of few groups of elements.
