tissue are the group of the cells having similar origin, structure and function. study of tissues is called histology. in unicellular organism (amoeba) single cell performs all basic functions, whereas in multicellular organism (plants and animals) shows division of labour as plant tissues and animal tissues. plant tissues are of two types: meristems and permanent tissues . meristems: the meristems are the tissue having the power of cell division. it is found on those region of plant grows. types of meristems: apical meristems: they are present in the tip of stem and roots of the plants and help in increasing the length of plant. , lateral meristems: presents at the sides of stem and roots and helps to increase the girth. , intercalary meristems: presents at the internodes of the plants and help in increasing the length between the nodes.
permanent tissues- two types such as simple permanent tissues and complex permanent tissues. simple permanent tissues are subdivided as..... (1) paranchyma- this tissue provide support to plants. they are loosely packed and have intercellular space between them. paranchyma with chlorophyll which performs photosynthesis is called chlorenchyma. the paranchyma with large air space is called as aeranchyma. paranchyma also stores food and water.(2) chollenchyma- this tissue provide mechanical support , thickened at the corners, have little intercellular space. it allows easy bending of various parts of a plants without breaking.
(3) sclerenchyma- this tisue makes the plants hard and stiff,thickened at the ligning and no intercellular space. cells of this tissues are dead and commonly seen in husk of the coconut.
complex permanent tissue- this tissues are made from more than one types of cell. all these cell coordinate to perform a common function. they are subdivided as;
[1] xylem- it consists of tracheids,vessels , companion cells , xylem paranchyma and xylem fibres.they have thick walls.
function= aids in conduction of water and minerals.
[2] phloem- it consists of seive tubes, companion cells, phloem paranchyma and phloem fibres.
functions=phloem transports food material to other parts of the plants.
epithelial tissues= it is a protective covering forming a continous sheet. simple epithilium is....
