Given : graph

To Find : the values of amplitude, wavelength, time period, frequency and wave velocity.

Solution:

Amplitude is the half of the difference between highest and least value

Highest value = 2

least  value = - 2

Amplitude = ( 2 - (-2))/2 = 2

time period= Time taken to complete one cycle

4 ms is time period

frequency = 1/Time period

frequency  = 1/ 4 ms

1 mill = 1/1000

=> frequency  = 1000/4  Hz

=> frequency  = 250  Hz

wavelength = 0.4  m   ( 0.5 - 0.1)   Distance between adjacent peaks

wave velocity = wavelength  * frequency

=> wave velocity = 0.4 * 250

=> wave velocity = 100  m/s

  • Amplitude will be the maximum displacement/disturbance along the y axis. So, amplitude = 2 cm.

  • Time period is the time taken to complete one full oscillation, in other words, it can be also written as time between adjacent peaks. So time period = 4 ms.

  • Similarly wavelength is distance between adjacent peaks = 0.5 - 0.1 = 0.4 metres.

  • So, frequency is :

f =  \dfrac{1}{t}  =  \dfrac{1}{4 \times  {10}^{ - 3} }  = 250 \: hz

  • Wave velocity = 250 × 0.4 = 100 m/s.
