Reaction : CH₃ - CH = CH₂ □(→┴(i) Hg(OAc)₂/H₂O) X + Na → Y + CH₃Cl → Z + HI □(→┴0°C) A + B

1. CH₃ - CH = CH₂ (→┴(i) Hg(OAc)₂/H₂O) X

When propene reacts with Hg(OAc)₂/H₂O, it follows ' Oxymercuration-Demercuration of Alkenes '.

In that reaction, alkenes are converted into alcohols following the Markovnikov's rule.
