CH3 -CH(OH)Br it is chiral or achiral
Answers
Answer:
Chiral - Chirality is a geometric property of some molecules and ions. A Chiral molecule/ion is Non-superposable on it's mirror image. The presence of an asymmetric carbon centre is one of several structural features that induces chirality in organic and inorganic molecules.
Achiral - The molecule on the left has a plane of symmetry though the centre carbon. This is a mirror plane ; in other words, on half of the molecule is a perfect reflection of the other half of the molecule. This molecule is achiral because on it's mirror plane.
The main difference between Chiral and Achiral is that the mirror image of a chiral is non-superimposable whereas the mirror image of an achiral is superimposable.
----------------------------------------------------------
The meaning of Chiral and Achiral :-
Chiral :- asymmetric in such a way that the structure and it's a mirror image are not superimposable.
Achiral :- (Chiefly of a molecule) symmetric in such a way that it can be superimposed in it's mirror image ; not chiral
