The IUPAC formula to write a compound's name is :-

\tt {Prefix+Word\:root+Primary\:suffix+Secondary\:suffix}

  • The prefix will contain about the sude-chain substitutes.
  • Word root will contain about the number of carbons.
  • Primary suffix will contain about the type of bond like ane,ene or yne.
  • Secondary substitute will contain about the functional groups.

Let's get back to your Question :-

\tt {CH_3-CH_2-CH_2-CH=CH-CH_3}

The question you gave is wrong because when we its structure, one of the carbon gets 5 bonds, which isnt possible.

The structure is in the photo attached.

Now, As we have 6 carbons we will use the word root as Hex.

We also have double bond, so the Primary suffix is ene.

We have no functional group, so there will be no secondary suffix.

The prefix should contain side chain substitutes. But we don't have it, so no prefix will be there.

So, finally IUPAC name is :- Hex-2-ene.

The number 2 denotes the position of double bond.

\rule {200}5
