Therefore the reaction between acetyl chloride and hydrogen molecule is hydrogenolysis and is catalysed by palladium on barium sulfate.

When an acyl chloride is reacted with hydrogen molecule in the presence of barium sulfate and palladium catalysts it forms an aldehyde( R-CHO).
