Complete combustion of methane:

CH4 + 2O2 -----> CO2 + 2H2O

Point to remember:

All hydrocarbons ( methane is a hydrocarbon) produces carbon dioxide and water upon combustion.

Hydrocarbon: An organic compound composed exclusively of hydrogen and carbon.

Examples: C2H6 (ethane), C4H10 (butane)
