CH4+2O2——→CO2+2H2O. In this combustion REACTION, oxygen is reduced to water and and Hydry in methane to H+ ion in water. Because the OXIDATION-NUMBER of O2 in Molecule is =0. But in water it's OXIDATION-NUMBER is =-2.

In methane the OXIDATION-NUMBER OF H = -1 and in water its OXIDATION-NUMBER OF H = +1. So oxidation.
