Given:

1 rabbit saw 9 elephants while going to the river. Every elephant saw 3 monkeys going to the river. Each monkey had 1 tortoise in each hand.

To find:

How many animals are going to the river?

Solution:

From given, we have,

1 rabbit saw 9 elephants while going to the river.

Rabbit = 1

Elephants = 9

Every elephant saw 3 monkeys going to the river.

1 Elephant = 3 monkeys

9 Elephants = 9 × 3 monkeys = 27 monkeys

Each monkey had 1 tortoise in each hand.

1 monkey = 2 tortoise (as a monkey has 2 hands)

27 monkeys = 27 × 2 = 54 tortoises.

Therefore, we have,

1 rabbit

9 elephants

27 monkeys

54 tortoises

As it's not mentioned that elephants are going to the river, so we have, the number of animals going to the river are,

1 - 9 + 27 + 54 = 82.

Therefore, 82 animals are going to the river.
