as Donna had 5 of them and Elizabeth had 10 ( twice of Donna ) then 5+10=15

as they hung up seven of them. then 15-7=8

2. therefore just as the first John had 5 birdhouses and Eddie had 10 so 5+10=15

so as they sold 9 of them the no. of birdhouses left is:

15-9=6
