Ship should move at a speed of 8 km/hr to escapes the passengers of the ship

Step-by-step explanation:

A ship is 77 km from the shore

a leak which admits 2 1/4 ton of water in every 5 1/2 min.

=> 9/4 ton water admits  in 11/2 mins

=> 9/2  water admits in  11 min

=> 9/22 water admits in 1 min

=> 60 * 9/22 water admits in  60 min = 1 hr

= 270/11 ton every hr

An outlet tank can throw out 12 tons of water per hour

=> every hr net water admit = 270/11 - 12  = 138/11  ton

138/11  ton  water  in   1 hr

1 tom water  =  11/138 hr

69 ton water in = 69 * 11 /138  = 11/2  hrs

Let say speed of ship = S km/hr

Speed of rescue ship = 6 km/Hr

Effective speed = (S + 6) km/Hr

Time = 11 /2 Hrs

Distance = 77 km

=> (S + 6) (11/2) = 77

=> S + 6 = 14

=> S =  8

Ship should move at a speed of 8 km/hr
