Explanation: Let the length of rod1 be L1 and the length of rod2 be L2

Since their expanded lengths are the same

∴ Let the expanded lengths of both the rods  be "x"

Also, let the coefficient of expansion for both the rods be the same(since nothing is mentioned about the material of the rod in the question) and let it be α

Using the formula;

(change in length)=(original length)×(coefficient of expansion)×(change in temperature)............(1)

Putting the values for rod1 in the above formula

x=(L1)×(α)×(30°).......(2)

Putting the values for the rod2 in formula (1)

x=(L2)×(α)×(40°).........(3)

Divide (2) by (3), and we get

x=(L1)×(α)×(30°)/x=(L2)×(α)×(40°)

On solving we get

L1/L2= 4/3.
