If he still has returned 2000 more from 1/3rd of the total money and has to repay rupees 21000 then the amount of money borrowed was Rs. 34500.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the total amount borrowed by Chanchal Babu be Rs. “x”.

It is given that he had returned Rs. 2000 more than 1/3rd of the total money borrowed

So, Amount of money he had returned = Rs. [2000 + (1/3rd of x)] = 2000 + (x/3) ….. (i)

After returning, he still had to repay Rs. 21000

Therefore, we can write the eq. as,

21000 + 2000 + \frac{x}{3} = x

⇒ 23000 = x – \frac{x}{3}

\frac{2x}{3} = 23000

⇒ x = \frac{23000 * 3}{2}

x = Rs. 34500

Thus, the amount of money borrowed by Chanchal Babu was Rs. 34500.
